Ayurveda views the human being as a whole body-mind-consciousness complex, and treatment is aimed at creating well being for this entire complex, to put in a nutshell, holistic treatment. Ayurveda aims at the oneness of the mind, body and soul. In the West, patients and providers are moving towards a total paradigm shift in the context of its reductionist approach towards such basis of well-being. There is even a conscious effort in some Ayurveda medical school syllabi to imitate the syllabus of the Western medical school where emphasis is on the body, little on the mind, with study of consciousness being ignored. Hence while Ayurveda calls for a holistic approach, the young Indian Ayurveda practitioner is being driven away from the principles and practices so fundamental to Ayurveda. This conference will try to address this issue , primarily by addressing around 1000 young students, practitioners and teachers of Ayurveda. The conference desires to enable the Ayurveda community in India to see global trends wherein the movement from reductionism to holism is ever on the rise and thus motivate the Ayurveda student to aspire to study and apply authentic Ayurveda in its totality. Aspiring students of this ancienct science will get an opportunity to listen to Speakers including young and renonwed practitioners and scholars of Ayurveda who will share their philosophy, experience and practical modern practice. Four of the invited keynote speakers, each of whom is globally known, are extremely powerful speakers having captivated audiences worldwide and are primarily responsible for bringing Ayurveda to the attention of the global community. They are: Dr. David Frawley - for his work on the Vedas, and Ayurveda and Jyothisha in particular; Dr. Robert Svoboda - first Westerner to graduate from an Ayurvedic school in India, and today, a globally respected physician; and, Dr. Hari Sharma - an Allopathy physician based in Ohio, America and having great regard and commitment to Ayurveda. The conference also gives a chance for students to interact with primary health care providers and gain an understanding of the role that Ayurveda can play in meeting the primary health needs of the community. There will also be a session with children from schools in the surrounding area giving them an opportunity to interact with the Ayurveda community and also encourage them to see Ayurveda as a career choice. An expo will showcase vendors of Ayurvedic products likrsingle herbs, formulations, supplies, etc,. and services, including allied fields such as yoga and meditation.
